Located in the Sandhills of North Carolina's southern Piedmont region,  Fayetteville is situated in the heart of Cumberland County, North Carolina and is  also the county seat.

With an estimated population of over 330,000, Fayetteville is the 4th largest metropolitan area in the state.

Geography: Approximately 652 sq. miles, Cumberland County is primarily a manufacturing area where the primary industries are furniture, tobacco, and textiles. The area is also rich in farmlands...however, our area is most widely recognized as the "Sandhills" ... famous nationally for our golf courses as well as Fort Bragg and Pope Air Force Base, [combined, they form one of the largest military installations in the world and also the backbone of Fayetteville’s economy].

Climate: Fayetteville Climate Averages

Southeastern North Carolina, experiences four distinct seasons, with moderate winter temperatures and mild spring and fall, allowing for many outdoor activities.
Most of North Carolina is partially protected from the cold winter air by the western mountain ranges.

The spring storm systems often avoid North Carolina and temperatures are mild.

Tropical air is present during most of summer, bringing warm temperatures and high humidity. Afternoon temperatures may reach 90 degrees during the mid-summer, but seldom reach 100 degrees. Even in the hottest weather, early morning temperatures usually are in the upper 60's. Most summer rain is produced by thunderstorms, which can be accompanied by strong winds.

In autumn, the most rapidly changing temperature trend is greater than the temperature rise in spring. The drop-off is greatest during October, and continues through November.

There are no distinct wet and dry seasons in North Carolina...however most rainfall occurs in summer, with July rainfalls the heaviest. Autumn is the driest season, and November the driest month. Precipitation is sporadic during winter and spring. The average annual rainfall ranges mostly between 40 and 55 inches.
